Hey fellow adventurers! For those of you don’t know (maybe you’re living under a rock or in a cave?), the Winter Olympics are currently underway! Go America! Sorry, my bias just slipped out. And there’s a lot of things that have made this year’s Olympics exciting: South and North Korea sharing a flag, Russian athletes competing under the Olympic flag rather than the Russian flag, and most importantly, (for this month’s blog) Malaysia is competing for the first time! So, let’s see who’s competing for Malaysia!

With two athletes, Malaysia is among the group of countries with smallest number of athletes. The two athletes competing in this year’s Olympics are: Jeffrey Webb and Julian Yee. Since Malaysia is a tropical country, they are few Malaysian athletes training in winter sports. That said, let’s learn a little about those competing this year.

There is more information on Julian Yee. Yee is a figure skater, born on May 26th, 1997. His mother introduced him and his brothers to ice skating when Yee was four. When in Malaysia, Yee practiced ice skating at the local rinks located in public malls. Though to ensure he had time to practice alone, he would convince ice rink owners to open their rinks early to him. In 2016, he trained in Canada so that he could learn to compete at more of an international level.
